Hey, you. You’re probably wondering how you can trust me with such a vulnerable, sentimental process. Having tough conversations. Representing you with the written word. Well, pull up a chair and get to know me a little bit! My name is Cheyenne Dorsagno. And I like making people feel seen and heard. I know I’m good at it, because people have always dumped their weird secrets on me. And I enjoy it. I want to listen. People are fascinating. That’s why I became a journalist when I was, who knows, just 13.
As a person… (if I may) I am honest, hardworking, and creative. I can be a vulnerable and sentimental idiot (but that’s all part of art and humanity). I laugh at my own jokes. And despite this bold assertion of self-admiration, I can be humble.
I always knew I loved to write, but I didn’t know what was important about it. Then, I faced my own death. A brain tumor. It’s probably as scary as it sounds. I didn’t know how to process this except by writing a letter. It was something that I knew my loved ones would always have to remember me by. The words felt eternal. I wanted these words to exercise my gratitude for the life I’d lived. Create a lasting artifact of the person I’d been. And give us all some peace.
I’m thankful to still be here. Now, I’m passionate about connecting people. To themselves and to others. I educate the public on resources that can help them find beauty in their darkest times. I help them find the words to realize their worth, articulate their story, and become closer to their family.
These moving experiences with others and the self is what life is all about. But it’s also about the little things. Like for me, it’s all about hysterically laughing, eating dark chocolate, being a tree hugger (only a little ironically), and watching movies (trashy schlock and award-winners alike).
